Ode to a Fiddlehead

    A little green curl
    Pops out from its bed
    First true sign of spring
    The sweet fiddlehead

Fiddleheads are the tender green shoots of ostrich ferns
that grow along river valleys in Eastern Canada and New
England in the Spring.  Collecting these delicacies is a
yearly ritual for many, and they are best served lightly
steamed with butter, often as an accompaniment to fish
dishes.  “Fiddleheads and Gaspereaux” or “Fiddleheads
and Salmon” are traditional springtime meals in Eastern
Canada.

Special features of this pattern include a wide variety of
specialty stitches, some of which were designed
specifically for this sampler, and the Fiddlehead button
that helped inspire the name of Fiddlestitch Cottage.
